Star Trek

Randy bought me the Star Trek series of movies recently using a gift card he’d had for about a year. I’m not really a trekkie, definitely more of a Star Wars geek, but I do enjoy a good Star Trek, as well. It’s been a long time since I watched these!

So this morning, Wally and I are watching the first one, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Wally’s all for it – aliens and spaceships and battles. He had caught the tail end of First Contact about a month ago when I was watching it in bed waiting for him to wake up and he loved it.

Everybody’s so young in the cast. AND their communicators are on their wrists, not their emblems on their shirts. And they all have super-groovy haircuts, of course, and the uniforms are snazzy, as well. The untucked-shirt look will apparently be all the rage in the future. But, for being credited as helping to revitalize the Star Trek franchise, this first movie is really not all that fantastic. But it is at least devoid of teenage whininess (“But I was going to go to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters!).
