FIRST, let me introduce my new blog, An Epic Journey. I know, I know, you’re wondering why I need yet another blog. This makes, what, the seventh? The seventh currently active. I’ve closed three others over the years.
But I am embarking on an epic project and thought it warranted its own blog. Plus, I want to be able to freely link to my posts about the project, and I generally try to avoid directing people (customers) to this blog. (Not that you can’t find it, but I don’t ever link to it directly.) So the new blog will be all about – and only about – this project.
What project is that?
The other day, I came across the Day Zero Project on someone’s knitting blog. You can click on the link to find out more. Essentially, you come up with a list of 101 things to complete in the next 1001 days. I started wondering what I’d put on my list… and here it is. I start tomorrow, April 1. I finish Wednesday, December 28, 2011.

Take a bellydancing class
Take a hip hop class
Take a Community Education class in something I’ve never tried before
Go to an event at the observatory
Take a picture, over the course of a year, of every time around the clock.
Do the 26 things scavenger hunt
Do the 100 strangers project (get business cards for this purpose)
Learn a new craft
Develop a new product and market it successfully. NOT a baby or children’s product.
Make something for 10 different people, unexpected (0/10)
Participate in 2 charitable crafting projects a year (0/6)
Make something using my power tools – all of them.
Enter photos in the state fair
Enter sewing projects into the state fair

making this list made me realize how many “life goal” type things I’ve already done and made me really appreciate my life so far. Reading thru the lists of others who are also doing this project, I found so many things I’ve already done. Skinnydip. Climb a mountain. Be naked outside. Go Camping. Sleep under the stars. Go dancing. Learn to dance. Lay in bed for an entire day (OK, but I would never do it again by choice, it was miserable). Donate to Locks of Love. Use cloth shopping bags. Learn ASL. Knit stuff, sew stuff, bake stuff.
now, I tried to avoid pie in the sky type stuff. I tried to make the list realistic considering my budget, lifestyle, two children, and general level of busy-ness. I tried, generally speaking, to avoid too many “monthly” or “weekly” obligations and stick with one-time deals. I made everything concrete and not open-ended. (“make more time for__” for example.) With one exception, I didn’t include anything on the list that involved buying something. I also tried to avoid including things I would be or should be doing anyway, as well as things from the regular household “to do” list (refinish woodwork, for example, or replace the basement futon).
