Judge Andrew Napolitano, speaking tonight on Glenn Beck, pointed out that stealing documents is the crime. Publishing documents that you get that you didn’t steal yourself is not necessarily a crime.
And I’m no legal expert, so I’ll take his word for it.
I’ve wondered this whole time why we’re not hearing more about the twit who stole the documents, and how he was able to have access to them in the first place.
And now some idiot Republican is introducing a bill to make what Assange did illegal. Well, guess what? He already did it. We hardly need yet another law on the books, people.
I can’t decide whether I think Assange is a villan or not. I believe he has stated that his goal is to create chaos. If true, that’s not good. Chaos doesn’t usually result in anything good. But knowing what your government is up to is a Good thing, not a bad thing. At the same time, I’m totally cool with government having some secrets, particularly when it comes to foreign relations. We don’t need to know everything.
It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out – particularly if we ever hear anything re: the guy who actually stole the documents.
