Planned Parenthood, some truth

because I feel like ranting…

This is a little outdated, but not much. PP just released 2009’s report, and this web post is based on the 2008 report.

“Planned Parenthood’s accounting of 3% (of their services being abortion) is misleading and not consistent with the rest of the business world. In college I interned at the airline manufacturer Boeing, which sells a lot of airplanes and also a lot of spare parts for those airplanes. For every airplane they sold for tens of millions of dollars, they also sold lots of spare parts for as little as 25 cents. By looking at TOTAL number of sales, you could conclude that 1% of their business was selling airplanes and 99% was spare parts, which is totally ridiculous. The reality was the value of the airplanes sales was close to 99% of their business and the spare parts 1%. Looking at the cost and effort of what is being offered is a much more accurate way to measure. ” The blogger goes on to examine the 2008 PP annual report to conclude that 36.7% of Planned Parenthood’s business is abortions.

From today’s news:

“The nation’s largest abortion business released a factsheet in September showing the number of abortions it performed in 2008 increased to 324,008, a 6.1 percent increase over the 305,310 abortions it did in 2007. In 1997, Planned Parenthood did about 160,000 abortions.”

“The September companion report Planned Parenthood issued showed, despite claims to the contrary, Planned Parenthood’s number one agenda is abortion.

“The document boasts that the number of adoption referrals provided by Planned Parenthood increased by over 100 percent from 2,410 referrals in 2006 to 4,912 referrals in 2007.

“However, the total number of adoption referrals still amounts to a number equal to only one-third of the increase in the number of abortions done by Planned Parenthood affiliates.

“Planned Parenthood also says it helped just under 11,000 women in 2007 with prenatal care and pregnancy help services.

“Yet, prenatal care and adoption referrals resulted for only 5 percent of the total services provided to women in 2007 while abortions accounted for 95 percent of the services that year, according to Planned Parenthood’s own figures.”

And, last, I found this tidbit interesting.

“They also push cheap condoms on young people as if they were the answer to every sexual hurdle…condoms which were rated in 2005 by Consumer Reports as among the worst-performing (i.e. most likely to fail) of all the condoms they tested.”

I can’t substantiate that one, since I don’t know what brand they hand out…
