Muslims, Christians, Strange Parallels

So the Pope said some things about Muslims being violent, and the violence being bad. (though the whole of his speech was focused on dialoguing with Muslims, and seems to have been a pretty good speech.)

Some Muslims responded by, well, being violent. Whoo hoo. Way to prove him wrong.

A local school is going to peform The Laramie Project as its fall play. A play that attempts (without directly saying it) to paint all non-yay-for-gay people as bigoted, fearful hatemongers. And so in response, Fred Phelps is planning to picket in front of the school with his God Hates Fags signs.

Oh, yeah, whoo hoo. Way to prove them wrong.

Celebrating the One Month Anniversary of driving my loaner car from the dealer

Yes, ladies and gentleman, it was one month ago today, August 18, that I took my car to the dealer with an overheating problem.

The car started overheating when we returned from vacation. It was only about 112 degrees outside and the car started overheating, which forced the air conditioner off, which made things not only miserable but of course potentially dangerous as well (because driving a car with an engine that’s not being properly cooled is not a good idea). They needed to replace the ENTIRE cooling system. Coolant reservoir, tubes, etc. All of it.

Then about two weeks later, it started overheating again. The coolant tank was completely empty, so we filled it with water, did our shows at the State Fair, then returned to the car to find the coolant tank BONE DRY again. Fortunately, yours truly was smart enough to pack a gallon of water just in case. Then we headed over to the dealer. (Land Rover.)

And then two weeks later I called to find out what the status was, and he said that they had to do “extensive” diagnostic work and had only recently found the part that was causing the problem.

So here we are. The last time I called, I got the distinct impression that my car was in about 348 pieces in their shop, and they weren’t entirely sure how to get it back together.

At least it’s still under warranty.
